What a report is
A report sets out what national public datasets held about one record of title on the dates shown in it: road frontage, the title, water, land cover, terrain, hazards on record and national rules that may apply. Every finding names its source and date.
Records, not ground truth. Public records can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and some things (unconsented work, recent changes, unrecorded flooding) appear in no dataset. Where a dataset doesn’t cover an area, the report says so: a gap in the records never means the thing isn’t there.
What a report isn’t
It isn’t a LIM, legal advice, a survey, a building report, a valuation, or an insurer’s assessment, and it doesn’t tell you whether to buy. It never says what the rules allow on a block: that is for the council, a planner or a lawyer. Get the LIM too, and have a lawyer review the title before you commit.
Buying a report
A report is NZ$39 for one record of title, paid once through Stripe. It is issued when you first open it after paying, then kept exactly as issued, fingerprinted and independently timestamped, so it can be checked later. It isn’t regenerated when the records change.
The free lookup and the guides are free to use.
If something goes wrong
If a report doesn’t open, is for the wrong title, or has an error in how we read a record, email admin@lotline.co.nz and we’ll fix it or refund you. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
Using the report
The report is yours to use and share, for example with your lawyer, lender or family. The public data in it is licensed by its publishers, who are credited in the report and at the foot of every page.
Changes
If these terms change, the new terms apply to reports bought after the date shown at the top. A report you’ve already bought keeps the terms it was bought under.
